First, Your Emotions Might Not Be the Problem

Before you try to meditate your way out of a losing account, two bigger problems usually need solving first — and the real fix may be removing the human altogether.

Every time I open the timeline it's the same conversation. Tilt. Emotions. Discipline. Mindset. An endless loop of people trying to meditate their way out of a losing account.

It's a real issue, and I don't say that lightly — I had it badly. Blown accounts, the lot. So I'm not talking down to anyone here. But before I get into the emotional side, I want to point something out, because I think a lot of you are carrying two much bigger problems that need solving long before feelings come into it.

Do You Actually Have an Edge?

Not a vibe. Not a setup someone screenshotted. An edge. Can you reliably take money out of the market over a meaningful run of trades? Yes or no.

Can You Prove It?

And by that I mean with statistics you produced yourself. Not "I bought a course, so it must work." Not a guru's backtest. Hard, ground-truth proof that depends on nobody but you.

If you are missing either of those, your emotions are not your primary problem.

You cannot master being stoic if you never get a bite of the apple. Without an edge, you will keep bleeding money, become discouraged, and then over-commit the account precisely when you're already deep in a drawdown.

If that's you, the honest thing to do is pause and go back to first principles: figure out how to extract money from the market on a repeatable basis. Everything else is noise until you can do that.

So, if you are genuinely profitable, then what is the problem?

An edge is the main part, but it isn't the whole part. On top of it you need to be an expert in two things: knowing your own stats, and risk management. Get those, trust them, and the emotions become a lot easier to handle, because all you are actually dealing with is variance.

Over a long enough run your strategy makes money, and your risk management has already accounted for the losing streaks. You trust the process and you ride it out.

Easier said than done in the moment. I know. That was exactly my problem.

I Was the Weak Link

I spent a long time mulling over why, no matter how much I tried to fix myself, I could not solve the in-the-moment issue. Then it dawned on me. I was the weak link. Me. If it wasn't for me, I'd have been making money.

That single thought changed everything, because it pointed at a different kind of fix. If the human is the failure point, you take the human out.

Turns out one of the best competitors the trading world has ever seen had the same realisation decades ago. Andrea Unger, the only person to win the Robbins World Cup Championship of Futures Trading four times, on real money, across 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012.

He's a mechanical engineer by background, and he reached for exactly what an engineer's mind reaches for: precisely coded rules, tested against statistical evidence, with conviction and narrative stripped out entirely. True mechanical trading. Zero emotion.

The bonus, and it's a big one, is that it's set and forget. You go about your life. Run another business, hold down a job, walk the dog. The system works alongside your schedule instead of demanding you sit chained to the charts.

How

Fair enough — you want to know how. I'll keep this light for now and avoid going too deep; a fuller walkthrough is a post of its own.

You probably can't code, and you're almost certainly on TradingView. That's fine.

TradingView can be automated, but it isn't the best tool for it. It needs a bridge. I actually built TradeStar originally for exactly this: you create a custom indicator, use TradingView's alerts to fire a webhook into TradeStar, and TradeStar converts that signal and routes it to cTrader.

It works well, and it's the low-effort option for most of you. It does mean you need my product (or a similar one) and cTrader.

I moved away from that setup fairly soon after and now run Quantower. I really like Quantower. I tried ATAS too, which is also very good, and it came down to those two for me. I know some people swear by NinjaTrader; it's not for me. Others use Sierra Chart, which is a capable and long-established platform, just not my preference.

Quantower is the one I'll touch on here. You can build indicators and webhooks in it the same way, and it runs through TradeStar without issue. But the real point is that Quantower already handles automation natively, with something called Strategies. You can use these to bulk-backtest against your broker's own data feed.

The exact data you trade on, fast-forwarded over a full year, or five years. Real ground truth, no manual input, no guessing.

Once you're happy with the results, you take that same strategy and point it at your live feed. That's it.

"But how do I get my strategy into Quantower in the first place?"

AI. You do not need to be a coder in this era. Even Grok handles code well now. Feed the model the Quantower API documentation, describe your strategy, and have it build the thing for you. It takes a little trial and error, but it works very well. Just remember the order of operations: build it, then prove it on your broker's historical data, and only then let it touch real money — and don't try to be a hero, start small first on live.

That's the Fix

That's the simplest answer to your emotions problem. Automation. You remove the one part of the system that panics, revenge trades, and over-commits the account: you.

The bonus is the part nobody talks about. You get your time back. Less time sweating at the charts, more time living your life.

Real edge isn't sexy. It's boringly reliable. Build it, prove it, then let it run.
